In the first stage of its latest program to expedite advancements in cleaner energy solutions, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is aiming to reduce the cost of hydrogen from $5.00/kilogram to $1.00 within one decade. 

While the energy industry has started to add hydrogen to its mix, there are still several obstacles in the way of a large-scale deployment. With this cost reduction, part of the novel Energy Earthshot Initiative, the DOE says it could achieve a “five-fold increase in demand” for green hydrogen, which can be produced from renewables, nuclear, and thermal conversion.
