Columbia Gas Transmission said it is extending an open season for its proposed Midwest Project to further assess market interest in new transportation service. The open season was supposed to close Dec. 14 but has been extended to Jan. 31.

“The extension will afford the time needed to complete preliminary discussions with those that have expressed an interest in the proposed service, as well as provide additional time for others who have not had a chance yet to determine their interest,” according to Brian Fowler, manager of market development.

The project includes expansion plans and existing capacity. It will provide service from off-system receipt points at the Chicago Hub and in the Midcontinent production areas via CMS Panhandle to market points on Columbia’s system, particularly in the Ohio market (Areas 1 through 9 and 15 under Columbia’s firm transportation service rate schedule).

More than 2,400 MW of new generating capacity went into operation in Columbia’s market area in the last year and projects for another 6,000 MW have been announced. In addition, the company is experiencing growth from traditional utility markets.
