A third person died Saturday from injuries suffered last Wednesday at a Chesapeake Energy Corp. well site in Central Texas.

The blowout occurred at the Wendl and Daniel H 1 H well drilling site in Burleson County near Deanville, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Department. According to Chesapeake, workover operations were underway by contractors of Forbes Energy Services Ltd. unit CC Forbes and Eagle Pressure Control.

One person died at the scene and three people initially were airlifted to area hospitals. A second person died Thursday night. On Saturday, a third victim died, Chesapeake spokesperson Gordon Pennoyer said.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that a third contractor has died as a result of  injuries sustained in last week’s well control incident,” Pennoyer said. “Our thoughts and our prayers remain with those impacted.”

None of the victims had been officially identified, but 25-year-old Brian Maldonado of San Diego, TX, died Saturday, according to the Alice Echo News Journal in South Texas.

In addition, Linda Beddingfield on Friday filed a temporary restraining order and injunction against Chesapeake because she said her son Windell Beddingfield had died from his injuries in the blowout.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation by the Railroad Commission of Texas and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
