Leticia Gonzales joined Natural Gas Intelligence as a markets contributor in 2014 after nine years at S&P Global Platts, where she was involved in producing the daily and forward price indexes for U.S. electricity and natural gas markets. She joined NGI full time in 2019 to cover North American natural gas markets and news and in 2021 was appointed Price & Markets Editor. In this role, Leticia oversees NGI's Daily Gas Price Index, including the process for calculating, monitoring, and publishing its natural gas daily prices.

What is usually a quiet day of trading was anything but on Friday as November natural gas prices swung in a nearly 15-cent range before settling 6.1 cents lower at $3.161. Despite bullish weather forecasts that remained intact, lower demand because of former Hurricane Michael and recovering production following the storm helped market bears regain the upper hand after an early-morning rally.

Traders got the news they needed to meaningfully move natural gas futures prices Thursday in the form of milder weather that showed up in long-range outlooks. Nymex November gas futures settled at $3.222, down 6.2 cents on the day. Spot gas prices also were overwhelmingly lower, with dramatic day/day (d/d) declines seen across the country and especially in the Midcontinent, Rockies and West. The NGI National Spot Gas Avg. fell 19.5 cents to $2.96.
