TXU Signs Two Service Deals in as Many Weeks

TXU Energy Services signed a 10-year multi-million dollar agreement with Aperian Inc. to own, operate and maintain the mechanical and electrical energy equipment at Aperian's five Internet data centers, located in Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, Phoenix and Tampa. The contract also includes all future phases of expansion.

Aperian's data centers access bandwidth at the source by being placed directly on top of Genuity and UUNet Tier-1 Internet backbones. The company manages the physical environment and provides support services to keep its customers' Web sites up and servers operational. TXU Energy Services under the contract will provide Aperian with energy, manage energy use and own and maintain the equipment on a day-to-day basis.

TXU will remotely monitor Aperian's energy assets such as computer air conditioning units, UPS systems, backup generators, electrical distribution panels, power distribution units and DC power systems.

"Our customers won't tolerate any downtime, and neither will we," said Wayne Irwin, president of Aperian. "By contracting with TXU Energy Services, we can focus on our customers and let TXU provide the reliable energy management our Web-hosting facilities need."

The Aperian contract follows a similar TXU deal announced earlier in the month. The company reportedly signed a three-year, $100 million-plus comprehensive energy management contract with Bass Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Bass PLC, to provide natural gas, electric and risk management services for 118 hotels.
