Southern Wholesale Energy, the trading arm of Southern Company,signed a wholesale power supply contract with Dynegy Energy toprovide 260 MW of power from its excess wholesale capacity. Theagreement is the second wholesale power agreement between the twocompanies within the last six months.

“This agreement provides valuable capacity in the constrainedSoutheastern Electric Reliable Council region,” said Louis Dorey,president of energy marketing and origination at Dynegy. “Ourcontinued execution toward a 10% to 15% market share of thewholesale power market is advanced by the acquisition of thiscapacity.”

On March 10, Southern Wholesale Energy signed a long-termcontract to sell 225 MW of wholesale power from its Plant Dahlberggenerating facility in Jackson County, GA to Dynegy PowerMarketing.

Southern Company owns five electric utilities in the Southeast:Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power andSavannah Electric and Power. Southern Wholesale Energy manages morethan 5,000 MW of electricity for wholesale customers in theSoutheast region. The company also plans to add 8,000 MW ofregional gas-fired generation to its portfolio by 2003.

With this agreement, Dynegy now owns or controls more than23,500 MW of electric generation throughout North America.
