Billy G. Thompson, editor and publisher of the Austin-basednewsletter Texas Energy Week (TEn W), died at his home on Oct. 17,1998. He was 80.

A journalist for 62 years, Thompson had been appointed the firstpublic information director for the Texas Railroad Commission in1975. Prior to that he had worked for a number of Texas newspapersand was a contributor to various national oil and gas publications.He was known through much of his career for reporting on theprogress of the oil and gas industry. He started TEn W after heretired from the RRC. For many years he had been a contributingreporter to Natural Gas Intelligence.

Lt. Col. Billy Glenn Thompson served in World War II and theKorean conflict, helped raised three children and then cared forhis wife, Elizabeth, during her years of suffering with Alzheimer’suntil her death about a year ago. He himself died of an inoperablebrain tumor. He was buried Oct. 22 at the Houston NationalCemetery. The Thompson family directed any memorials to the HospiceAustin.
