Integrated Software Offered to Unbundling LDCs

Southern California Gas and TransEnergy Management have formed a partnership to market an integrated software product to unbundling local distributors who are struggling with exponentially greater numbers of transportation contracts.

Providence Energy Corp. in Rhode Island is the first to purchase a license for its subsidiary, Providence Gas, to use the software. Providence officials said its was instrumental to the launch of a new customer choice program. "Our original estimate of 350 gas transportation customers was almost tripled for this first phase. LDC Manager enabled us to get our customer choice program off to a strong start," said Nancy Montminy, Providence Gas unbundling team leader.

Lee Stewart, senior vice president at SoCal Gas, said, "With the unbundling of the natural-gas industry, there is a strong need for a fully integrated software system. This cooperative effort allows us to provide a packaged product needing little or no customization.

LDC Manager is a combined software applications derived from SoCal Gas' GasSelect system and TransEnergy's Energy Transportation System (ETS). GasSelect provides nominating, scheduling and imbalance management functions for LDCs, while TransEnergy's ETS provides contract, pricing, accounting and administrative functionality.
