Williams Partners LP’s Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line (Transco) is holding an open season through Aug. 23 for capacity on an expanded interstate natural gas pipeline system in Alabama, a link that is expected to come online during the fall of 2014.

According to Williams Partners, the Mobile Bay South III expansion would provide up to 325,000 Dth/d of firm natural gas transportation capacity to markets in the southeastern United States, specifically through the Transco Mobile Bay Lateral. The additional capacity would be available from Station 85 near Butler, AL, to points along the lateral as far south as the interconnection with Bay Gas Storage Co. Ltd.’s facilities near Mobile, AL.

Williams owns 68% of Williams Partners, including the general partner interest (see Daily GPI, Feb. 17, 2011).

“Mobile Bay South III is an extremely efficient way to move additional supply from Station 85 and a number of regional storage facilities to growing southeastern markets,” said Randy Barnard, president of Williams’ natural gas pipeline business.

Williams Partners said the final capacity, scope and cost of the project will be determined by the open season. The proposed project is subject to approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other agencies. For information contact Toi Anderson at (713) 215-4540.

Last year a pair of Transco expansions was placed into service (see Daily GPI, May 3, 2011). It added an additional 380,000 Dth/d of southbound firm capacity on the Mobile Bay Lateral from Station 85 to its interconnection with Gulfstream Natural Gas System in Coden, AL. The company also completed the second phase of its 85 North expansion, increasing capacity by an additional 218,500 Dth/d to serve power generators in North Carolina.
