Range Production Co.‘s lawsuit to compel the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide documents related to its investigation of Range’s alleged contamination of water wells in the Barnett Shale region in North Texas was dismissed without prejudice in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. Judge Le Yeakel said Range’s pursuit of the documents in conjunction with a case before the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) was rendered moot when the RRC found Range to be not responsible for methane in the water wells (see Daily GPI, March 23). Range and EPA are still battling in federal court over the agency’s enforcement action against Range.

A General Electric (GE) division is showcasing biogas engines at two digester projects to turn livestock waste and other agricultural biomass into methane-rich renewable biogas at farms in Wisconsin and Indiana. In Indiana GE’s Jenbacher JMS 320 generator sets are being used in the 1 MW Bio Town Ag project, the largest biogas-to-energy project in the nation. It combines the GE technology with digester technology by GHD Inc. In a second project in Dane County, WI, three family-run dairy farms are participating in the state’s first cluster manure-digester project. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Agriculture are partnering to promote digester use on farms and ranches.
