Tres Palacios Gas Storage LLC, a subsidiary of Westport, CT-based NGS Energy LP, has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the go-ahead to place into commercial service Wednesday a third cavern at its storage facility in Matagorda County, TX.

Tres Palacios already has received authorization to operate storage caverns one and two, as well as its gas handling facility and header pipeline system (see Daily GPI, July 16, 2009; Oct. 2, 2008). With the third cavern, it will have a planned working gas storage capacity of 36.62 Bcf, and the ability to receive injections of up to 1 Bcf/d and handle withdrawals of up to 2.5 Bcf/d.

Tres Palacios is interconnected with 10 interstate and intrastate pipelines: Florida Gas Transmission, Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line, Tennessee Gas Pipeline, Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, Central Texas Gathering System, Houston Pipe Line, Texas Eastern Transmission, Enterprise Texas, Enterprise Texas Intrastate and Kinder Morgan Tejas.

NGS Energy, a developer of storage facilities, has storage facility projects in Mississippi, Louisiana and Colorado as well.
