The custom-made desks used by former Enron executives Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling were donated to Saving Animals, a nonprofit animal protection organization. The charity will auction the items on e-Bay through March 24 with all proceeds benefiting the group’s spay, neuter and adoption programs.

The one-of-a kind desks were designed by Gensler Architects and fabricated by Brochstein’s, one of the nation’s premiere manufacturers of custom fitted architectural furniture. According to Brochstein’s, the desks, which feature Makore Pommelle veneers, would cost well into five-figures if manufactured today. The documents of provenance, which confirm the authenticity of the pieces, will be available for review and the originals will be provided to successful bidders.

Saving Animals was selected as the recipient because of its commitment to Houston and its citizens in addressing the tragedy of pet-overpopulation by providing sterilization surgeries for dogs and cats, preventing animal homelessness and promoting pet adoptions.

“It is fitting that something positive will come from the sale of the Enron Building to help the community. By spaying or neutering pets, and promoting adoption of homeless animals, we’re keeping strays off the streets and creating a healthy community for animals and people,” said Saving Animals Founder Sean Hawkins.

For more information about the auction visit www.ebay.com and enter “Enron desk” into the search box. Early Friday afternoon the starting bid for each desk was listed as $25,000 and no bids had yet been received.
