The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Thursday unveiled new detailed energy market statistics pages on its website that were produced by its Energy Market Oversight (EMO) division. The pages display charts and graphs of current market fundamentals and detailed regional statistics on natural gas and power supply, demand, flows, gas storage and prices.

The idea is to make available to the public the information FERC uses to monitor the market. Chairman Joseph P. Kelliher described the extensive information system as “a living state of the market report.” Those who don’t want to wait for the Commission staff to put together all the information for a completed seasonal or monthly report can go to the web pages, which are updated as information comes in, and pick out what they need.

Steve Harvey, head of EMO, part of FERC’s Office of Enforcement, took the Commission on a tour of the new web pages during Thursday’s open meeting. Market reports compiled by Commission staff also will be accessible. To view the new pages go to https://www.ferc.gov/ and click on the heading Market Oversight. Subsections include State of the Markets, Reports & Analysis, Market Snapshots, Market Views, Electric Power Markets, Natural Gas Markets, and Other Markets.

The natural gas segment, for instance, is separated into market regions with market descriptions and charts on trading volumes, both financial and physical, and spot and basis prices. Also, within the regions, specific data is provided for updates on infrastructure projects, including pipeline, storage and LNG; demand, production and storage by state; and annual average day-ahead prices for hubs in the regions. The “Other Markets” covered are coal, oil, emission allowances, weather and LNG.
