Williams has extended the open season on its Kern River natural gas pipeline system through Tuesday (Sept. 18). The open season, originally set to end last Wednesday, seeks binding commitments for seasonal and year-round firm backhaul transportation service from Kern River’s new interconnect near Elberta, UT with Questar Pipeline’s ML No. 104 Project to markets along the Wasatch Front that are upstream of the interconnect, which is scheduled to be completed Nov. 1.

Questar’s ML No. 104 is a 75-mile, 272,000 Dth/d expansion loop that received its Federal Energy Regulatory Commission certificate on June 13, and final regulatory approvals in early July (see NGI, June 18). The proposed facilities would transport to western markets the growing coal-seam natural gas production near Price, UT, with the volumes delivered to Questar from Colorado Interstate Gas’ Uinta Basin Lateral at Natural Buttes. The $80 million pipeline is expected to help satisfy the growing demand for gas along Utah’s Wasatch Front.

Shippers have to complete and send a Firm Backhaul Bid Form to Kern River by 5 p.m. Tuesday with original copies expressed by Thursday (Sept. 20). Kern River will notify shippers of any allocation of capacity and submit final original copies of the transportation agreement to the shippers by Sept. 24. All transportation agreements then would need to be executed and submitted back to Kern River no later than Sept. 28. Call (801) 584-6444 for more information.
