Portland, OR-based Northwest Natural Gas Co. has appointed Mark S. Dodson as the company’s president and COO. Dodson, 56, had served as NW Natural’s senior vice president of public affairs and general counsel since 1997. Dodson was a partner in the law firm of Ater Wynne Hewitt Dodson & Skerrit in Portland from 1980 to 1997. He also has worked in the general counsel’s office of the U.S. Department of Transportation and was a special counsel to the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C.

Austin-based Southern Union Co. has named David W. Stevens executive vice-president of utility operations and Dennis K. Morgan executive vice-president of administration. The company said Stevens will be responsible for overseeing the company’s natural gas operating divisions: Southern Union Gas, Missouri Gas Energy, Atlantic Utilities, PG Energy, and New England. In addition, Stevens will oversee the customer service, engineering and gas supply departments. Stevens is currently the president of Southern Union Gas. Morgan will be responsible for overseeing a broad range of corporate administrative functions, including legal, human resources, risk, environmental matters, and corporate communications. Southern Union is an international energy distribution company serving nearly 1.6 million customers in Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Florida and Mexico.

Houston-based Plains Resources Inc. announced three additions to its executive level. John T. Raymond was appointed to the positions of executive vice president and COO, Timothy T. Stephens to the positions of general counsel and executive vice president – administration and Jere C. Overdyke Jr., as executive vice president and CFO. Raymond joins Plains Resources from Kinder Morgan Inc. and Kinder Morgan Energy Partners MLP where he was vice president of corporate development. Stephens comes to Plains Resources from Abacan Resource Corp., where he was formerly chairman, president and CEO. Overdyke joins Plains Resources having formerly served Enron Corp. as managing director of Enron Global Markets.

The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) appointed Doug Graham, president of ATCO Pipelines, as the new chairman for the association for 2001-2002. He succeeds Ron Clark, president and CEO of TransGas Limited. CEPA represents the interests of nine of Canada’s major crude oil and natural gas transmission pipeline companies. Its members operate 100,000 kilometres of pipelines and transport more than 95% of the hydrocarbons produced in Canada.

Midland, TX-based Parallel Petroleum Corp. announced that its affiliate, First Permian, LLC, has hired Steven H. Pruett as its president and CEO. Pruett has 20 years of industry experience, most recently as vice president and oil and gas investment portfolio manager for Enron North America in Houston. First Permian LLC is a privately held oil and gas company formed in June 1999 to acquire the Permian Basin oil and gas assets of Fina Oil and Chemical Co. Parallel was one of the founders and owns a 30.675% equity interest.

PSEG Global announced it has added George P. Schaefer as senior vice president of finance and treasurer. Schaefer formerly worked as an executive for Enron Corp. where he led a team in the structuring, negotiation and closing of electric generation and energy-related transactions.
