The Alliance for Energy and Economic Growth (AEEG) last week pushed for the creation of a national energy policy that will strike a balance between meeting long-term consumer demand for reliable energy at reasonable prices and protecting the environment.

AEEG is a new coalition of more than 200 small business owners, economic development groups, manufacturers, electric and natural gas utilities and energy producers.

“With the absence of a national energy policy, it is no wonder there have been shortages and price spikes,” said Bruce Josten, executive vice-president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.”Our goal is to ensure more reliable and affordable energy, while protecting the environment.”

Josten said a national energy policy must include the following principles:

“We enjoyed historic economic growth during the past decade, not coincidentally during a time of abundant energy supplies,” said National Association of Manufacturers President Jerry Jasinowski. “Now we need to be united in the pursuit of a comprehensive energy policy, just as we are united in our understanding that the United States is facing significant, long-term energy supply problems,” he said.
