Through a new partnership with Alliant Energy IndustrialServices, the Piedmont Municipal Power Agency, representing 10municipal utilities in South Carolina, has taken its next step toprepare its members and customers for a competitive electricmarketplace.

Alliant will conduct a complete pricing, cost and accountinganalysis for the agency and its members to enable them tovoluntarily “unbundle” their electric prices — separating costsof generation, transmission and distribution — in a major steptoward preparing for a competitive energy market.

“This initiative is part of Piedmont Power’s ongoing work,analyzing our services and prices, to be sure we are prepared forcustomer choice,” said Todd Kilsdonk, Piedmont Power Director ofBusiness Development. “In the meantime, these initiatives help usprovide customers with more flexible rates, greater pricing optionsand lower costs for their electricity. We want to be sure we’redoing all we can to help our customers keep a lid on their energycosts.”
