Michael I. German has been elected president and COO of New YorkState Electric & Gas based in Ithaca, NY. German joined NYSEGin 1994 as senior vice president of the company’s Gas BusinessUnit. Prior to that he was senior vice president of the AmericanGas Association in Washington. NYSEG is the primary subsidiary ofEnergy East Corp., which offered to buy Connecticut Energy Corp.for $617 million last Friday.

Tom Brown Inc., Midland, TX, has hired Jim Lightner to bepresident of the company. He will join the company in its Denveroffice immediately. Lightner most recently was vice president andgeneral mangers of the Denver office of Enron Oil and Gas. Thecompany’s former president, Bill Granberry elected to not relocateto Denver as part of the corporate headquarters relocation and hasresigned effective May 31.

Coastal Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, has announced threepromotions. Gregory W. Hutson is senior vice president, responsiblefor all worldwide land and oil and gas marketing activities of thisCoastal Corp. subsidiary. John T. Elzner is vice president onshoreland and Jon Nelsen is director of land business developmentfocusing on acquisitions and divestitures. All three joined Coastalin the early ’80s.

The Gas Research Institute has promoted two executives. WilliamM. Burnett, who has been with GRI since 1978, has moved up from hismost recent position as vice president and general manager toexecutive vice president. Raymond G. Giese, who joined GRI lastyear, has been named vice president of marketing and sales.
