Anadarko Petroleum Corp. last Tuesday announced the pending retirement of CFO James R. Larson and the promotion of two executives within its North American exploration and production operations. Larson, a 25-year Anadarko veteran, said he will retire by the end of the year.

“I have thought long and hard about this decision and believe that now is a good time for me to retire from Anadarko,” said Larson. “I have my health and want time to enjoy it, and the company is healthy as well.” Larson noted that he had been a part of Anadarko since its original spinoff from Panhandle Eastern to its merger with Union Pacific in 2000. He plans to help Anadarko with the transition as it looks for a replacement.

Karl F. Kurz, formerly vice president of marketing, has been promoted to senior vice president in charge of marketing and general manager of U.S. onshore operations. He will take on the additional leadership role of directing the activities of the company’s foundation assets in the U.S. onshore areas and will continue to have responsibility for Anadarko’s oil and gas marketing and hard minerals business.

“Karl has proven to be an extremely capable and talented leader over the years as he has led our marketing and minerals operations,” said CEO Jim Hackett. “I am certain he will add value to our U.S. onshore portfolio, which is an important area of focus for our company.”

Also, Michael O. Bridges, currently general manager of Canadian operations and president of Anadarko Canada Corp. (ACC), has been promoted to vice president for Canadian business. He will continue to serve as president of ACC.
