The United States, Canada and Mexico will have to work cooperatively to gain access to the world’s supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to satisfy the growing gas demand in North America, President Bush said Wednesday.

Bush made the comments during a televised press conference with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin following a trilateral summit in Waco, TX.

“We’re going to need liquefied natural gas coming into our three countries and into our markets. And I look forward with the presidents on how to develop more access to liquefied natural gas,” Bush said. “There’s a lot of natural gas in the world. The question is how do we economically get it to our respective markets”

Bush indicated the three North American leaders spent “a lot of time” during the summit discussing the energy challenges facing the continent. In the U.S., he said “now is the time [for Congress] to get [an energy] bill to my desk; this is the year.”
