Chester County, PA, commissioners have revoked two easements for the Sunoco Pipeline LP Mariner East (ME) 2 project, following a series of regulatory and environmental issues related to construction. While a pipeline already crosses the county property, Sunoco needs access to finish the ME 2 project. The decision came at roughly the same time as Sunoco informed Chester County residents that it intends to restart horizontal directional drilling for a stretch of the system where the operations were thought to have fouled well water in 2017. Partial service started on ME 2 in 2018 using an older refined products pipeline to bypass the suspected area and another in Chester County, where work has been on hold. State regulators issued an injunction after sinkholes formed near the project right-of-way. ME 1 also still remains offline after another sinkhole formed near it in the county in early 2019.
