Dallas-based Wolf Midstream Partners LLC is testing support for a proposed crude oil pipeline to expand takeaway capacity from the Permian Basin in West Texas.

A binding open season to solicit long-term firm shipper commitments for the proposed Red Wolf Crude Connector is being held through Dec. 14. As proposed, the 16-inch diameter pipeline would run 40 miles with initial capacity of 120,000 b/d.

The pipeline would originate in Howard County near Big Spring and connect to Wolf’s existing oil terminal and downstream connections near Colorado City.

“We are excited about this project and what it means for our customers in the Big Spring area,” Wolf CEO Curtis Ewers said. “Along with providing much needed transportation capacity and increased market options, the Red Wolf Crude Connector provides Wolf with significant potential for additional growth and connection opportunities.”

Construction activities have begun and, pending the results of the open season, Wolf expects the connector to begin commercial operations in the second half of 2019.

Wolf’s existing oil pipeline and terminal was placed in service this year. The existing system is a network of about 50 miles of pipeline facilities that aggregate and transport crude oil production to the Colorado City Hub.
