Mike Sommers, CEO of the American Investment Council, has been elected president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute (API) by the organization’s board of directors. Sommers previously served as chief of staff to then-Speaker of the House John Boehner and as Special Assistant to the President at the National Economic Council under George W. Bush in 2005. Sommers will take over the top spot at API from Jack Gerard, who announced earlier this year that he will step down in August when his current contract ends.
