Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Rick Perry is traveling to India to meet with government officials and stakeholders in the private sector to discuss growing U.S.-India energy ties.

DOE said Perry is traveling to the capital, New Delhi, and the trip is concluding with the inaugural Strategic Energy Partnership meeting, co-chaired by Perry and India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.

Last December, Pradhan said Gail (India) Ltd., a state-owned gas utility, had been attempting to renegotiate separate contracts with Cheniere Energy Inc. and Dominion for importing liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Gail's 20-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Cheniere officially started in March. Meanwhile, Dominion's Cove Point LNG terminal officially entered commercial service last week. A U.S. affiliate of Gail has a 20-year SPA with Dominion for half of Cove Point's marketed capacity.
