FERC on Tuesday issued a favorable environmental assessment for Dominion Energy Inc. subsidiary Dominion Cove Point LNG LP's proposed Eastern Market Access Project.
The brownfield project would add 294,000 Dth/d of capacity on Dominion's system in Virginia and Maryland to deliver natural gas to Washington Gas Light Co. (WGL) and Mattawoman Energy LLC's Mattawoman Energy Center power generation facility.
The project would involve:
Constructing a 24,370 hp compressor station at an existing interconnect with WGL in Charles County, MD;
Constructing a 7,000 hp electric reciprocating compressor unit, along with various other replacements and upgrades, at the Loudoun Compressor Station in Loudoun County, VA;
Constructing a meter building at the Loudoun Metering and Regulating Station in Loudoun County; and
Modifying and upgrading the existing Pleasant Valley Compressor Station in Fairfax County, VA.
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staff concluded that if constructed and operated based on staff’s recommended mitigation measures, “approval of this proposal would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment."
Dominion is planning to begin construction on the project later this year, with service expected to begin by September 2018.
