Former FERC Commissioner Suedeen Kelly has joined Jenner & Block as a partner in the law firm’s Washington, DC, office. Jenner & Block is forming an energy practice with the addition of Kelly and two other former Federal Energy Regulatory Commission employees: Max Minzner, who served as general counsel, and Jeffery Dennis, a former director of the Division of Policy Development. Kelly was first nominated to FERC in 2003 by then-President George W. Bush. Prior to her nomination, Kelly had been an attorney with the firm of Modrall, Sperling, Roehl, Harris & Sisk, a professor of law at the University of New Mexico School of Law and a fellow at the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. In 2009 President Obama nominated Kelly for a third term at FERC, but she declined the nomination. After leaving the agency, Kelly co-chaired the energy industry practice at Washington, DC-based Patton Boggs LLP.
