West Virginia’s natural gas industry has pitched in to help with recovery efforts after devastating flooding last week damaged homes and claimed the lives of as many as 23 people in the state (see Shale Daily, June 28).

The West Virginia region of the American Red Cross announced a $350,000 donation from a group of gas companies Tuesday. EQT Corp. separately said it had donated $50,000 to the West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. Mountain Valley Pipeline LLC, backed in part by EQT Midstream Partners LP, donated an additional $25,000 to the group.

“Last week’s flood has impacted the entire state,” said Bob Orndorff, Dominion Resources’ state director of public affairs, speaking for the natural gas group. “We live here, have offices here, and local employees here. West Virginians support each other during tough times, and the gas industry is proud to be part of that tradition. We are thankful for the American Red Cross’ great work during disasters and hope this donation will go a long way in helping them assist West Virginians in this time of need as they recover from the devastating flood waters.”

According to the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Red Cross has set up numerous shelters in affected areas to provide meals, water, comfort kits and other supplies to flood victims. The “pledge by the natural gas industry will help to ensure that the Red Cross is able to assist those suffering loss of home, property, or without the basic essentials to survive,” Red Cross Regional CEO Erica Mani said.

The Red Cross said the companies that contributed to the $350,000 donation included Antero Resources Corp., Apex Pipeline Services Inc., Blue Racer Midstream LLC, Chevron Global Community Fund, Columbia Pipeline Group, Consol Energy Inc., Crestwood Midstream Partners LP, Cunningham Energy LLC, Dominion Resources Inc., Energy Transportation Inc./Applied Construction Solutions, Eureka Midstream LLC, ExxonMobil Corp./XTO Energy Inc., Jackson Gas Co., Learned Leadership LLC, Marathon Petroleum Corp., Mountaineer Gas Co., Noble Energy Inc., Ryan Environmental LLC, Southwestern Energy Co., Stone Energy Corp. and TransCanada Corp.
