Venture Global Plaquemines LNG LLC has applied for free trade agreement (FTA) and non-FTA authorization to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its proposed terminal on the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, LA.

Plaquemines LNG requested authorization to export up to a total of 1.24 Tcf of natural gas per year, which is equivalent to approximately 24 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG. The filing was submitted to the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy on March 1 [16-28-LNG].

Plaquemines LNG requested the authorization on behalf of itself and as agent for other entities that may hold title to the LNG at the time of export from the project. It is seeking a 25-year authorization.

FERC approved the request of Plaquemines LNG to initiate its pre-filing process in July (see Daily GPI, July 7, 2015). Plaquemines LNG has been engaged in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s pre-filing process [PF15-27] for more than six months. The company anticipates filing its formal application with FERC later this year.

Venture Global is also developing an LNG export terminal in Calcasieu Parish, LA (see Daily GPI, Feb. 8; June 24, 2015); the Plaquemines project is the company’s second in Louisiana.
