An oil spill offshore Southern California over the weekend has shut down some local beaches and a cleanup effort is ongoing.

Houston-based Amplify Energy Corp. in a note Monday said subsidiary Beta Offshore notified the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) on Saturday of an oil sheen about four miles off the coast. As of 8 a.m. on Monday, recovery efforts had collected 3,250 gallons of oil, a company spokesperson told NGI.

As a precautionary measure, all of the company’s production and pipeline operations at the Beta field were shut down, Amplify said. The source of the spill was not yet known and the company deployed a remotely operated vehicle to investigate.
