Amocoincreased its ability to provide gas locally to about 700 MMcf/d,primarily due to two successful new wells at the company’s existingFlamboyant structure off the southeast coast of Trinidad.
“This natural gas development project marks a major step towardour plan to support domestic industrial growth,” said David Wight, president of Amoco Energy Co. of Trinidad and Tobago. “The growingdemand for natural gas in Point Lisas, combined with the needs ofthe new Atlantic LNG liquefied natural gas facility in Point Fortinis expected to result in natural gas sales in excess of one billioncubic feet a day in Trinidad by the middle of next year.”

In the last 10 years, domestic gas demand has doubled inTrinidad due to new construction and expansions of methanol, ammonia and iron reduction plants that utilize gas. Since lastyear, Amoco’s sales to NGC have increased 36%, rising from acontract quantity of 350 MMcf/d in 1997 to 475 MMcf/d in July 1998.On July 23, Amoco Energy set its daily gas sales volume record, selling 592 MMcf to the NGC to meet local needs.
