Texas preliminary May crude oil production averaged 2.14 million b/d, up from the 1.68 million b/d average of May 2013. Preliminary crude oil production for May was 66.24 million bbl, up from 52.22 million bbl reported during May 2013.

Oil and gas wells produced 617.99 Bcf of gas based upon preliminary production figures, up from the May 2013 preliminary production total of 557.90 Bcf. Preliminary May gas production averaged 19.94 Bcf/d.

May production came from 165,220 oil wells and 92,842 gas wells. May preliminary oil and natural gas production figures were both up from April (see Shale Daily, June 27).

Estimated final production for May is 77.79 million bbl of crude oil and 532.13 Bcf of gas well gas. The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) derives final production numbers by multiplying preliminary May totals of 66.24 million bbl of crude oil and 470.48 Bcf of gas well gas by an adjustment factor of 1.1744 for crude oil and 1.1310 for gas well gas. Totals do not include casinghead gas or condensate.

In the last 12 months, Texas production was 786 million bbl of oil and 7.8 Tcf of natural gas.

In June, operators reported 1,739 oil, 316 gas, 36 injection and eight other completions compared to 1,826 oil, 405 gas, 66 injection and six other completions in June 2013. Total well completions for 2014 year to date are 15,828, up from 12,740 recorded during the same period in 2013.

RRC issued 2,185 original drilling permits in June compared to 1,876 during the year-ago period. The June total included 2,009 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 43 to re-enter existing well bores, and 133 for recompletions. Permits issued in June included 639 oil, 94 gas, 1,345 oil and gas, 85 injection, zero service and 22 other permits.

The Texas average rig count as of July 18, was 886, representing about 49% of all active land rigs in the United States.
