Natural gas is making its way to Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Louisiana, with expectations for the first cargo to leave the facility in January.

Analysts at Genscape Inc. have been watching activity at the terminal and monitoring pipeline flows of gas. In a note Wednesday, Genscape said Natural Gas Pipe Line Co. (NGPL) reported “the first substantial deliveries” to Sabine Pass from the Sabine Pass Liquefaction meter on Tuesday (Dec. 22).

“Deliveries at this location were first seen on Dec. 19, but remained under 5 MMcf until Dec. 22, when NGPL reported a 58 MMcf delivery,” Genscape said. “Scheduled deliveries for Dec. 23 are 34 MMcf, as reported for the timely cycle. The first deliveries to Sabine came from Creole Trail [Pipeline] in early October 2015, and since then there has been consistent flaring and commissioning activities.”

Genscape said its monitors detected “higher than usual flaring” at the Sabine Pass site in association with the larger NGPL delivery. Analysts expect the first exports from the terminal during the third week of January.
