NET Power advanced the West Texas project following success with its supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) demonstration plant in 2018. The project at that time achieved first fire in La Porte, southeast of Houston, and was synchronized to the Texas electric grid in late 2021.

The new plant, to be sited in Odessa near the Permian operations of Occidental Petroleum Corp. (Oxy), is scheduled to come online in 2026.
