A subsidiary of Oneok Partners LP on Monday filed an application with FERC to build a 15-mile natural gas pipeline lateral in Kentucky’s Ohio and Muhlenberg counties.

Midwestern Gas Transmission Co.’s proposed  lateral would connect its existing gas transmission pipeline to the Paradise plant, a gas-fired electric-power generation plant being constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Muhlenberg County. The pipe would have an estimated maximum natural gas flow of 227,000 Dth/d.

Midwestern Gas runs a 400-mile natural gas pipeline that provides bidirectional natural gas services to markets in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, southern Illinois and the Chicago market hub. The construction schedule for the proposed natural gas pipeline lateral may include:

  • Filing applicable permits with regulatory agencies in October;
  • Building to begin in September 2015, pending regulatory approvals; and
  • In service for the lateral in September 2016.

The proposed natural gas pipeline lateral is subject to the execution of a precedent agreement with the TVA. Constructing the lateral is subject to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). It also would require an environmental assessment to be completed. Subject to FERC’s pre-filing application, a public open house in Ohio is scheduled for May in Ohio County.

Oneok Inc. owns 41.2% of the partnership interest.
