BP plc has appointed Richard Herbert as COO, exploration, to succeed Mike Daly, who is retiring at the end of October after 28 years, eight as chief of the unit. Herbert would be based in London. Since 2009 Herbert has been executive vice president (EVP) of exploration for Calgary’s Talisman Energy. He began his professional career in 1984 with BP as an exploration geologist and spent 19 years at the company and then spent six years working at BP’s joint venture in Russia, TNK-BP, first as vice president of exploration and then as EVP of technology. Under Daly’s leadership, BP has accessed and expanded new deepwater exploration positions and led resource deals around the world for tight and shale gas opportunities, as well as oilsands projects.
