Reliant Extension Adds Capacity for Texas Power Plant
Reliant Energy Gas Transmission (REGT) completed installation of
an 18-mile extension of its mainline in East Texas to increase gas
deliveries to Southwestern Electric Power's (SWEPCO) 882 MW Wilkes
generating plant, located near Marshall.
The extension project raise deliveries to the plant to 100
MMcf/d from 12 MMcf/d under a long term contract with Central and
South West Corp. subsidiary SWEPCO. The extension started flowing
gas earlier this month. The new 16-inch diameter section requires
no extra compression and interconnects with Reliant Energy pipeline
facilities in Harrison, TX.
'"This project solidifies and expands our relationship of
quality service to CSW," said Dale C. Earwood, president of Reliant
Energy Pipeline Services and of Reliant Energy Interstate
Pipelines. "In addition, the pipeline extension increases our
ability to provide substantial deliveries on demand at low cost
over a highly reliable interstate pipeline system."
Since 1996, REGT has been supplying gas to SWEPCO's Wilkes plant
through a low pressure, 8-inch line. REGT supplies three other
SWEPCO plants in the area as well.
