Petal Gas Storage Co., a subsidiary of Crystal Oil Co., said theopen season for the proposed expansion of its high deliverabilitysalt cavern storage facility near Hattiesburg, MS, received servicerequests exceeding proposed capacity.

The open season had been extended until Nov. 16. Petal currentlyis evaluating the requests. The proposed expansion includesleaching an additional salt cavern with a storage capacity of 5.2Bcf of gas, of which 3.2 Bcf would be working gas. The new cavern,when combined with the existing cavern, will result in a facilitywith 5.8 Bcf of working gas capacity and a total withdrawalcapacity of 600 MMcf/d.

The open season includes additional storage capacity andreceipt/delivery points on the pipelines of Tennessee Gas Pipeline,Koch Gateway (low-pressure and high pressure systems), Transco,Sonat, Destin, and Florida Gas Transmission.

Petal filed an application for the expansion in October andexpects to receive authorization early next year with servicecommencing in January 2001.
