Petal Mulling Strong Open Season Response
Petal Gas Storage Co., a subsidiary of Crystal Oil Co., said the
open season for the proposed expansion of its high deliverability
salt cavern storage facility near Hattiesburg, MS, received service
requests exceeding proposed capacity.
The open season had been extended until Nov. 16. Petal currently
is evaluating the requests. The proposed expansion includes
leaching an additional salt cavern with a storage capacity of 5.2
Bcf of gas, of which 3.2 Bcf would be working gas. The new cavern,
when combined with the existing cavern, will result in a facility
with 5.8 Bcf of working gas capacity and a total withdrawal
capacity of 600 MMcf/d.
The open season includes additional storage capacity and
receipt/delivery points on the pipelines of Tennessee Gas Pipeline,
Koch Gateway (low-pressure and high pressure systems), Transco,
Sonat, Destin, and Florida Gas Transmission.
Petal filed an application for the expansion in October and
expects to receive authorization early next year with service
commencing in January 2001.
