Paul Anderson is leaving the post of president and chiefoperating officer of Duke Energy, a position he assumed when Dukebought PanEnergy, to become managing director and CEO of BrokenHill Pty. Ltd. He will relocate to Australia. Anderson announcedthe move two days after Duke announced it was selling two-thirds ofPanEnergy – the Panhandle Eastern and Trunkline pipelines – to CMSCorp.

Anderson was named chairman of PanEnergy in April 1997, afterholding successively more responsible positions first with TexasEastern Corp., and then PanEnergy since 1977.

“We’re very happy for Paul,” said Duke spokesman Randy Wheeless.”He got a good opportunity at BHP to make an impact with a companythat some people would say is struggling. When he became thepresident of PanEnergy a few years ago, some people would say theywere struggling. So he knows how to turn things around.” RichardPriory, Duke chairman and CEO, will assume the president’s title,and there will be no new COO.

Baker Hughes also reported Anderson resigned effectiveimmediately from its board of directors because of his new positionat Broken Hill and relocation to Australia.
