FERC’s doors were closed for a second day in a row Thursday due to a power outage that has affected the North Capitol Street corridor in Washington, DC, where the agency’s headquarters is located.

After originally losing power around 4 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Pepco restored service to the affected area at 9 p.m. EDT Wednesday, only to lose power two hours later when the cables serving the area failed again, causing a new outage, said the DC-based utility, which serves the District and Maryland. Early Thursday, Pepco said it expected power to be restored by noon, but as of 5 p.m. EDT, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) was still dark.

Because of the outage, FERC said any filings that were due Tuesday (May 31) through Thursday (June 2) will be considered timely if filed on the next business day that FERC is open. “eFiling is NOT available,” the agency said. However, parties can now search dockets at www.ferc.gov.

At FERC, emergency personnel were notified to report for duty. “Program office leadership will be in touch today with other staff on potential alternate work arrangements. All other personnel are on administrative leave…Employees should monitor ferc.gov for updates on operating status for Friday, June 3,” FERC said on its website.
