Colorado Interstate Gas received a FERC certificate last Wednesday to expand its Raton Basin facilities to keep pace with expanding coal-bed methane production. CIG will construct two new compressor stations, add to a third, and build a total of 69 miles of pipe to deliver 85 MMcf/d into major interstate lines.

CIG said it signed contracts with Primero Gas Marketing Co. and El Paso Energy Raton for firm transportation from receipt points on its Picketwire Lateral to interconnects to the east and south of CIG’s Campo Junction in Baca County, CO. The expansion will allow shippers to make deliveries into Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line, ANR Pipeline, Williams Natural Gas, El Paso Natural Gas, Northern Natural Gas, Transwestern Pipeline, and Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission agreed with a CIG petition to defer a decision on future rate treatment for the expansion until the agency reviews its new rate case, filed this month.
