Daniel Rappaport was elected to a fourth two-year term asNymex’s chairman, making him the longest currently sitting chairmanof any futures exchange in the world, , the exchange announcedWednesday. Rappaport was first elected to the position in 1993.Before his election, he served six years as a member of Nymex’sboard of directors. Rappaport has been a member of the exchangesince 1981.

ANR Pipeline Co. named Gary Valentz as vice president,information technology Wednesday. Valentz will be responsible forinformation technology resources and customer information systemsat ANR and its affiliate, Colorado Interstate Gas Co. Beforeattaining this post, Valentz served as director, businessinformation systems, for Great Lakes Chemical Corp.

Southern Co. appointed Robert H. Haubein, Jr. to the newlycreated position of executive vice president of its powergeneration unit. In that role, he will have oversight of all thepower plants operated by Southern Co. Generation. In addition tofulfilling his new responsibilities, Haubein will continue in hisrole as Georgia Power’s senior production officer.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has appointed CynthiaA. Marlette deputy general counsel. Marlette most recently had beenassociate general counsel for hydroelectric and electric. As deputygeneral counsel she replaces David N. Cook who left the Commissionlast month to become general counsel for the North AmericanElectric Reliability Council.

Kent. L. Barry was elected vice president of Coastal StatesManagement, a subsidiary of Coastal Corp. Barry will be responsiblefor public affairs and corporate communications. Barry joinedCoastal in July 1998 as director of corporate communications of ANRPipeline.

Walter van de Vijver, currently president and chief operatingofficer of Shell Exploration & Production Co., will becomepresident and CEO. He will continue to lead the company’s E&Pand downstream gas organizations and will have accountability tothe Royal Dutch/Shell Global EP executive committee. RichPattarozzi, general manager for the deep-water Gulf of Mexico, willbe promoted to vice president of Shell Offshore Inc. where he willhave responsibility for Shell Deepwater Development Inc., ShellDeepwater Production Inc., and the Shelf Business Unit. This changewill become effective May 1, 1999. Paul Sullivan, general managerfor the Shelf Division in the Gulf of Mexico, has been nameddirector Research, Technology Development and Technical Services
