The South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable (Steer), which is claimed to be “the most comprehensive Eagle Ford Shale resource in the region,” has opened its offices in San Antonio, TX.

The organization is intended to serve as the facilitator and coordinator for communication, education and public advocacy surrounding the production of energy resources in South Texas. Steer said it aims to ensure that activities and advancements in the industry are responsibly addressed by guiding the energy sector and economic development progress in communities throughout South Texas.

“At Steer, we know that positive growth and development depend on collaboration, active dialogue and continued education among the various stakeholders both involved in, and impacted by, the oil and gas industry,” said Steer President Omar Garcia. “Steer will serve as the conduit between the industry, government, academia and local communities to ensure that communication and progress takes place in a productive manner.”

Steer was founded by 11 of the largest oil and gas operators in the Eagle Ford. The organization’s offices are in the same complex that houses The Nature Conservancy and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Separately about 18 months ago, Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter formed the Eagle Ford Task Force, which is charged with establishing best practices for development of the South Texas play based on input from across the industry and affected communities (see Shale Daily, July 29, 2011). There also is a separate group called the Eagle Ford Shale Consortium, which hosts an annual conference.
