Consol Energy Inc. COO Randy Albert is the new chairman of the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), taking the helm from David Spigelmyer until the current term ends in late November, MSC spokesman Travis Windle told NGI’s Shale Daily.

Albert was first elected to MSC’s executive committee in early 2011 (seeShale Daily, Jan. 24, 2011).

Spigelmyer was elected MSC chairman later the same year and was re-elected last year (see Shale Daily, Dec. 7, 2012;Nov. 21, 2011). He was a vice president at Chesapeake, but left the company recently, prompting his replacement as chairman of MSC, Windle said.

It was the second change in MSC’s leadership this summer. Last month Kathryn Klaber, who had helmed the industry-led MSC as CEO for almost four years, said she was stepping down (see Shale Daily, July 29). Klaber, who was selected to lead the newly formed organization in 2009, was expected to help in the transition. A new CEO has yet to be named.

Members of the MSC work with partners across the region to address issues with local, state and federal regulators, government officials and communities about all aspects of producing gas from the Marcellus Shale.

Canonsburg, PA-based Consol is active in the Marcellus, drilling nine horizontal shale wells there in 2Q2013 and reporting 10.7 Bcfe of production in the Marcellus in 1Q2013 (see Shale Daily, July 23; April 29). Earlier this year the company drilled its first well in Pennsyvania’s Upper Devonian Shale, which lies above the Marcellus and tends to mirror some of the attributes of the Marcellus.
