FERC last Tuesday approved Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America’s (NGPL) proposal to expand the working gas capacity of its Sayre storage field in Oklahoma by 6 Bcf.

The order gives the Kinder Morgan Inc. pipeline the green light to increase the existing working gas capacity of the Sayre field to 57.1 Bcf from 51.1 Bcf, and to raise its peak-day withdrawal level to 600 MMcf/d from 400 MMcf/d [CP05-7]. The storage facility is located on NGPL’s Oklahoma Extension line in central Beckham County, OK.

The expansion project calls for drilling 22 new injection/withdrawal wells, adding 8.3 miles of new pipeline and installing two new compressor units (inside NGPL’s existing Compressor Station 184) with a total rating of 8,285 horsepower. The proposed facilities are targeted for in-service in April 2006, a Kinder Morgan spokesman said.

NGPL also is planning to add an estimated 10 Bcf of working gas capacity to its North Lansing gas storage field in Harrison County, TX. The proposed expansion of working capacity to about 94.7 Bcf would be available to shippers on NGPL’s Gulf Coast Line by April 2007 (see NGI, March 7).

This marks the second expansion that NGPL has undertaken at its North Lansing storage facility in recent years, with 10.7 Bcf of storage service added in 2003, according to the company.
