Perry Heading to India in Wake of Growing Energy Ties
Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Rick Perry is traveling to India to meet with government officials and stakeholders in the private sector to discuss growing U.S.-India energy ties.
DOE said Perry is traveling to the capital, New Delhi, and the trip is concluding with the inaugural Strategic Energy Partnership meeting, co-chaired by Perry and India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.
Last December, Pradhan said Gail (India) Ltd., a state-owned gas utility, had been attempting to renegotiate separate contracts with Cheniere Energy Inc. and Dominion for importing liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Gail’s 20-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Cheniere officially started in March. Meanwhile, Dominion’s Cove Point LNG terminal officially entered commercial service last week. A U.S. affiliate of Gail has a 20-year SPA with Dominion for half of Cove Point’s marketed capacity.
