Chesapeake Taking More Midstream Services

MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources LLC has signed up units of Chesapeake Energy Corp. for additional midstream services in the Marcellus Shale in northern West Virginia, the partnership said Wednesday.

The deal includes services at MarkWest Liberty's Majorsville, WV, processing complex, which includes a 135 MMcf/d cryogenic processing plant. MarkWest Liberty said it is nearing completion of a second 135 MMcf/d cryogenic plant at Majorsville and is evaluating the addition of a third (see Daily GPI, Sept. 28, 2010). Natural gas liquids (NGL) recovered at Majorsville are transported via pipeline to MarkWest Liberty's fractionation, storage and marketing complex in Houston, PA.

By mid-2012 MarkWest Liberty is expected to be operating 745 MMcf/d of cryogenic capacity serving Marcellus rich-gas producers in southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia from its Houston, Majorsville and recently announced Logansport, WV, processing complexes, the partnership said.

MarkWest Liberty Midstream is a partnership of MarkWest Energy Partners LP and The Energy & Minerals Group.

"Majorsville and Logansport are a key part of our long-term vision of developing world-class midstream infrastructure that extends from our fractionation and three processing complexes in southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia to our processing and fractionation assets in southeast Kentucky, including our recently announced acquisition of EQT's Langley processing complex [see Shale Daily, Jan. 5]," said MarkWest CEO Frank Semple.
