Two workers were hospitalized and one was missing following a fire Thursday evening at the Phillips 66-operated Paradis Pipeline Station, which is a 30-minute drive west of New Orleans.

The pipeline carries y-grade, or raw, natural gas liquids (NGL) and extends from Venice, LA, to Paradis, LA.

The fire broke out at about 7 p.m. CST, Phillips said on an incident website. “The pipeline has been blocked in and the remaining product in the line continues to burn. Our first priority is ensuring the safety of our workers, responders and the community,” the company said. Local and state emergency officials were responding.

“We have confirmed there were six people working at the site at the time of the fire: three Phillips 66 employees and three contract workers,” Phillips 66 said. “Two of the contract workers were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment. One Phillips 66 employee remains unaccounted for.” One of the hospitalized workers was released Friday.

According to press reports, the St. Charles Parish sheriff said 60 homes in the area were evacuated. A shelter was established at an area community center, but residents were later allowed to return to their homes. The fire was expected to continue burning for some time.

“Ongoing air monitoring of the area indicates no health impacts to the surrounding community,” the company said.
