The U.S. Bureau of Land Management office in Utah on Thursday posted a proposed list of four parcels totaling 4,175 acres that will be offered in an online oil/natural gas lease sale in the first quarter.

BLM officials said the sale is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 21, and the protest and public comment period runs through Dec. 12. The comment period on the sale’s environmental assessment closed last month.

Slated for the Canyon Country District area, the sale will be conducted using the EnergyNet internet-based auction system, BLM officials said. Additional details on the internet auction process are available in a November 2016 notice of competitive lease sale on the BLM ePlanning website and Canyon Country sale project page.

With a rash of protesters from the Keep It in the Ground anti-fossil fuels movement at office-held lease sales over the past 12 to 18 months, BLM earlier this year switched to using the Internet for the lease sales. In October, BLM said it rescheduled four other lease sale auctions that were to be conducted to instead be held online in December.

“All four parcels are identified as available to oil/gas leasing under the current resource management plan,” BLM said. Details on the parcels and the EA’s findings of “no significant impact” can be found on the BLM website.

In a related national development earlier in the month, BLM added the option of online nominations for members of the public and industry specifying lands for possible future oil and natural gas development. The new online service, dubbed the National Fluid Lease Sale System, allows expressions of interest (EOIs) to be entered electronically for BLM review and processing.

The four parcels in the upcoming Utah sale, all in San Juan County, are listed as:

“Parcels may be viewed online at the EnergyNet website approximately 10 business days after this posting,” BLM said on its website.
