Incitec Pivot Ltd. and Cornerstone Chemical have dedicated a nearly $1.03 billion project that includes an $850 million ammonia plant, developed by Incitec unit Dyno Nobel, and Cornerstone’s $175 million investment in upgrades and infrastructure at its Fortier Manufacturing Complex on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish, LA. Incitec Pivot developed the Dyno Nobel ammonia plant to support its U.S. industrial explosives business and external customers. Cornerstone produces acrylonitrile, melamine and sulfuric acid at the Fortier complex, where Dyno Nobel’s ammonia plant is integrated with Cornerstone’s existing plant infrastructure. Access to the Mississippi River as well as the region’s abundant supply of natural gas were incentives for the project siting (see Daily GPI, May 21, 2014).
