St. Louis, MO-based Spire Inc. — formerly The Laclede Group — announced an open season for the Spire STL Pipeline, a proposed 70-mile steel natural gas pipeline that would interconnect to the Rockies Express Pipeline in Scott County, IL, and end in St. Louis County, MO.

The pipeline would be capable of delivering up to 400,000 Dth/d of natural gas to the St. Louis area “from the largest producing basin in America,” Spire said.

Open season bids for capacity are due Aug. 19 for service beginning as early as Nov. 1, 2018. Assuming customary regulatory approvals, Spire expects to begin construction on the pipeline in February, 2018.

The Laclede Group was renamed Spire Inc. earlier this year (see Daily GPI, April 26). The company’s primary business is providing natural gas service to more than 1.56 million residential, commercial and industrial customers across Missouri and Alabama.

The Laclede gas utility segment consists of three natural gas utilities: Laclede Gas Co. (serving St. Louis and eastern Missouri), Missouri Gas Energy (serving Kansas City and western Missouri) and Alabama Gas Corp. (serving central and northern Alabama, including Birmingham and Montgomery).

Laclede’s non-utility businesses include Laclede Energy Resources Inc., providing non-regulated natural gas services, and Spire Natural Gas Fueling Solutions, which provides compressed natural gas fueling solutions for transportation fleets.
